Sock Blank Painting |
|
|
Saturday, September 25 9:00 am - 12:00 pm |
Linda Van Andel |
|
Learn how to create your own self-patterning sock yarn. We'll begin with sock blanks, double-stranded knitting rectangles that contain more than enough yarn for a pair of socks. Painting these with dyes produces two identical strands of yarn with patterns in the colors of your choice. When your yarn is knitted directly from the blank, you'll have an identical pair of colorful socks. The instructor will cover how to achieve the type of pattern you would like, ranging from simple stripes to various types of more complex designs. |
|
| Skill level: No prior experience with dyeing necessary. | |
| Student provides: Rubber gloves, old standard size muffin tin (only if you have one) to hold cups of dye, an interest in exploring color patterning. | |

Roving Basket |
|
|
Saturday, September 25 9:00 am - 12:00 pm |
Ruth Rushlow |
|
In this class, students will make a random weave basket out of honeysuckle vines. This basket would be ideal for roving or for fruit or to display your handspun yarn. I will provide all materials and tools needed to complete the basket. Random weave is very easy to do, but if you're a highly structured person with a need for patterns, this may not be for you. The concept of this design would adapt well to grapevines. If you have an overabundance of them, you could take your knowledge home. This basket is very open, so whatever you put in it remains quite visible. |
|
| Skill level: Beginning basketmaking skills. | |
| Student provides: Enthusiasm. | |
| Instructor provides: All supplies needed, and tools to use.. | |
| Registration fee: $45 | |
| Materials fee (paid directly to instructor): $15 | |
Beginning Wheel SpinningCLASS FULL | |
| Saturday, September 25 9:00 am - 12:00 pm | Jennifer Szubielak |
| You will learn the basic mechanics of the wheel, very basic. What I intend to spend the most time on is learning how the fiber acts with you as you learn to guide it into becoming yarn. You know it wants to be yarn, and you are the one who will let it be all it can be! Everyone is unique, and the way you spin will be as well, so I want to let you find your inner spinner, and help you develop some basic skills so that you can become a yarn artist, and then a fiber-holic and, well...basically I am looking to be a mass enabler. Mwah-ha-ha! A booklet will be available to buy if desired. | |
| Skill level: No prior experience with spinning necessary. | |
| Student provides: A spinning wheels in good working order, or contact Holly to reserve one in advance. Bring warm and comfy socks or slippers to wear while spinning. | |
